Patriotism Tide

On September 12, there were flags and patriots all over this great land. I said then and I still say that it is a crying shame that it took a tragedy like this to spark that wave of pride. Am I the only one that now sees flags on the ground beside the road because they flew off of cars?

Where are the interviews and photos of Ground Zero and Pentagon rescue workers?

How long before the bombing strikes generate protests in our own country?

Even worse, how long before the Military troops at airports start getting crap from passengers?

This war is far from over, folks.

It has only been five weeks. This will likely go on for years.

Our way of life that we enjoyed has changed. We need to make sure that we, as individuals, are in for the long haul.

I got a very business-like letter in the mail today with no return address. I tossed it out without opening it. I no longer open "junk mail" at all. Coupons? Nope.

I realize that the chances of someone targeting me personally are very remote. but why take chances? MY way of life has changed. My daughter, nieces, nephews, and young cousins will never again feel the security that I felt as a child and as a young adult. We are not invulnerable.

Sorry this took a morose turn, but I felt like I had to say it.

I agree with that.

Here at school we have already had several of these ant-bombing protests, they make me sick.  About half the people in the dorm here have taken the flags off their doors.

I know I sure don't feel as secure as I once did.  Nuclear weapons have me scared the most.

As my dad said (before 9/11 too), the world got really crappy once before.  It ended in a flood.  I hope this isn't the same sort of deal.

Me and my mom Stopped at the Pentagon Monday (For the 2nd time since 9/11). And you know that big flag they hung up beside the "scar"? It's gone now.

It's like patriotism is a "Fad" like a majority of other things in this country. Here today, gone next week.

It is so sad that people don't realize how good we have it in America. This is the greatest county in the world. If you don't believe me then make 4 or 5 laps around the planet as I have and you will see.

You have to hang a flag with pride.  I am going to leave my chevy bowtie emblem on until I hear that the war is over and Osama Bin Laden has either been captured by the US or killed.  For some it was just a passing fad, how quickly some will forget about the 5000 innocent americans who were killed on that tragic day.  I expect that if the Taliban tries something else against the US there will be another surge in patriotism.  They may have won the first battle, but we will win the war.  A war is not fought by soldiers, it is fought by everyone.  United we stand, divided we fall.

And why would you remove it then?
