Possibly Bad Tps?

Hey guys, im having what i think is a TPS issue, but im not sure so i need some help! Alright first thing first I have a 2004 Gmc Sierra Crew Cab with the regular 5.3. roughly 85K. Only mods are K&N drop in filter, Dynomax Exhaust and 24" Wheels. Here's the problem....When under normal/moderatly aggressive driving, my truck acts like it slips, like i am moving the gas pedal or something. its like i can floor it and it just does really nothing for a second or two for the engine to catch up. Now i know normally this would sound like a transmission issue, i just had the tranny rebuilt by a very repuitable transmission shop, does great work. Got my truck back for 2 months or so, and this happened. Called the transmission guy figured it was acting up again. he tore it down and said that perhaps i had a tps issue. so here i am??? any thoughts guy? This is depressing as i just ordered a Volant CAI and 2" lowering shackles and was really wanting to test my intake out to its full potential :fume:. I have ordered a TPS replacement in anticipation that this will fix my problem as the transmission guy said this was most likely the culprit. It did throw a code but before i could have it checked the next day my battery was dead and i had to boost it off, clearing the code (after i started it not realizing it was dead). So any thoughts guys?

-Thanks in Advance Guys

Sounds like you have a MAF problem...not a TPS issue...but you need to read the code to be sure. Either way..It will come back. TPS issues usually present in idling issues...like the vehicle will idle high than low and fluctuate because the ECM cannot tell if the throttle plate is open shut or anywhere in between.

Cleaning your MAF will fix the issue 50% of the time...You clean it with a specific MAF cleaner.....dont use anything else.

The dead battery may clear the current codes but not the history codes they must be cleared with a Tech 2, just have the codes read.

Thanks for the replies guys. I called around and tracked some CRC MAF Cleaner at autozone, got the girlfriend to pick me up a can and I'll try it out tomorrow. Anything i should look for while/before cleaning it?

Dont touch the wiring in the sensor just spray the inside and air dry and reinstall. Clean the TB while your at it.

Welp i've got bad news...just cleaned the MAF sensor and Throttle body and installed my new intake still has the problem as first discussed :uhoh:...it does however have the check engine light on now so i'll go tomarrow and take to get it read. New TPS is scheduled to be here tomorrow lets hope that fixes it...

You know, that sounds like what my truck was doing. I put up a topic called 97 sierra power problems in the GM Tech page. May want to give it a shot. Mine turned out to be due to a lack of back preasure from my exhaust. Slapped an xpipe in and problem solved.
