so i bought a K&N Cold air intake modle 57 for my truck, and the nice people that i bought it from at advanced auto parts, didnt tell me that the intake was not ment for trucks with body lifts. i havent put on the lift yet, but i already bought it and it is sitting in the bed of my truck. so what im asking is whatdo i need to do to make it fit with he body lift?

had the same problem with mine, look for intake spacers at a DIFFERENT parts store that equal your body lift. I had to buy a 2" and a 1". It's not the prettiest but it works

k. i like how you suggested a different parts store. not a fan of advanced auto parts? lol. you think NAPA will have anything? im going to need 3 inches also. did they just fit together? or did you have to fashion them together somehow?

I don't like Advanced for 3 reasons.

1. I work at a Bumper to Bumper/Auto Value store... self explanatory

2. In most of my experiences shopping there, the staff was either very unprofessional, or lacked a general knowledge of vehicles that every counter-person should know

3. They tend to carry very cheaply made parts. I know there are exceptions like name brand products, but if it isn't, it's probably cheap.

 

Napa may have what you're looking for. The spacers I bought were from a company called 'Mr. Gasket'. They did fit together, but I wrapped electrical tape around the seam just to make sure there wasn't any leakage.

 

My truck is throttle body injected, so the spacers just fit right around my injector system, and I bought a universal air cleaner gasket for carbureted/throttle body systems (it's the gasket that would go between the air cleaner and the top of the carburetor).

 

Next was the tricky part. The bottom of my air intake wasn't perfectly round like the bottom of my factory intake was, so it wouldn't fit on the spacers. I had to take a hobby knife and some sand paper to round it out enough to fit on the spacer. Then I placed another universal gasket between the intake and spacers, and applied some black RTV just to seal it up good.

 

Again, it isn't pretty at all, but it fits, and I've smoke tested it the best I could, and didn't notice any vacuum leaks. I can post some pics if you're interested.

k so i have my intake installed andit works fine.

the only problem i have is after it was installed my check engine light keeps coming on and the turns off only to come back on later again. anyone know why?
