Programmers?

I'm not one to change a good thing. I have been driving GMC since 1989 and am quite happy. But times change, and technology advances.

My question is.....

Does anyone have experience with engine programmers, ei Edge Products? And have you seen any improvement in mileage and(or) towing. These plug and play products look interesting but I am not sure I believe the claims of increases in horsepower and mileage. Any insight would be appreciated. I should note I am also looking at aftermarket exhaust systems looking for the same kind of performance upgrades. I don't mind a bit of rumble, but I am afraid of the noise on the highway as I spend alot of time there.

Cheers!

I had Edge it was ok. I averaged maybe 0.5 mpg more with it. The best part is the gauges and if you get a programmer I would get one with display like edge or the new Diablo.

Like everyone else I got a Blackbear tune now and love it. Mileage is better than edge, but its too cold to judge right now. And dont expect to gain lots of mpg, an exhaust doesnt help much and sometimes hurts it, cold air kits wont help a lot either. Tunes help but only 1 to 2 miles.

I've been very happy with my diablo and what it's done for the truck. Once dialed in, it makes the power band stronger and smoother, and removes 80% if not better the horrible throttle delay. As far as mileage increase, I can't say I personally saw any. If you don't care about TQ management, then Diablo's one of the best choices as far as I'm concerned for many reasons.

You can update them when newer improved software comes out via computer, they have their own forum for support and tuning suggestions, they can upload custom tunes from a variety of venders, and they work.

With that said, My diablo is going to be for sale in April. I'm getting a blackbear custom tune because I want more.. :D My main interest is removing most of if not all of the torque management and tuning of the transmission. Something the Diablo can't perform on the GMT-900 trucks yet.

As far as exhaust, if your doing it for mileage, your going to be disappointed. If you want it for a muscle car sound, then :) Corsa, Borla and Magnaflow make the best in my eye. They are all stainless steel and have a good reputation. My favorite being Corsa simply because there is NO drone at all.

Good luck

I just got a Superchips Flashpaq a few weeks ago, I've been running their 91 Octane performance tune and what a difference it has made in throttle response, no delay, no AFM, quicker firmer shifts, etc....

My fuel light came on, so I fill my tank with 87 Octane and uploaded their Mileage XS tune to the truck; I will post what my mileage gains are after this tank has ran... :)
