It amazing all that wasted space that restricts airflow for noise reduction. You will notice a difference in your engine noise when stepping on the throttle, and its sounds great. Enjoy your new CAI, i installed mine and love it.

You'd be much better off with a closed box intake. Your stock intake is a "Cold Air Intake" as it is closed and draws air in from the fenderwell. This one does not look sealed and will draw in hot engine compartment air as well as splashed water/dirt.

I have the GMPP CAI which uses a similar box to the stock one with a higher flow cylindrical filter and a straight tube (similar to yours).

If you have water forced into the filter media, yes. More than likely, no. Water ingestion is usually from a sealed air box with a snorkel routed to the front grille or below to gain some sort of ram air.

ok sounds good thinks for the help i know i ruined my rangers engine but it had stock air filter in it and it came through the front grill i think. i ve seen alot fof videos where stock 99 z71's go through water up to the door handles and not suck water through it....at least i think its stock.. has anybody had exp with that?
