Bad Throttle Body

My 08 5.3 truck has been having rough idle starts when it is cold. Yesterday the "reduced engine power" came on. I took it to the dealer and they said it has a bad throttle body. They said it is not covered under warranty since I am at 40K miles. They want $450 for a new throttle body. I think this is crazy! A two year old truck with quailty problems like this. Do I have any other options? Should I press to the dealer to fix it for warranty reasons? or should I buy a used throttle body and do it myself or have a local garage fix it?

I am surprised it is not considered part of the drivetrain?

 

Changing the throttle body is not a hard task at all. But I do not know if it requires any relearn procedure since it is drive by wire.

I would press the dealer since you have the 50,000 mile powertrain warranty. The engine is part of the powertrain and the throttle body is part of the engine induction system.

 

Complain to customer service and/or try another dealer.

 

If all else fails, I think you can pick up an aftermarket TB for around $350 and change it out yourself.

Powertrain warranty is 5 yrs 100k

Your selling dealer should do a goodwill warranty. If not call customer assistance.

The motor is not serviceable.

 

What on your TB is bad? TB's just don't go bad.
