Hi my 2003 sierra is acting up.I just bought a new gm battery a couple of months ago but the battery keeps dying.My volt guage is right up where its supposed to be.Is there a way to check the alternator?I was in the car wash the other day and the wife was listening to the radio for 10 min. annd when i went to leave it wouldn't start.If i don't drive the truck for two days the battery dies.Any suggestions?

Yeah you can pop the Alternator off and bring it to autozone pep boys what have you and have it tested...its really cheap, or free to do so.

 

And if your Canadian, Canadian Tire does the same service.

Gentlemen,

 

After installing a new battery, it can take three hours of driving to completely filol it up. They are not fully charged when you buy them from sitting around.

They also don't drain after two days of not driving either.

Does it have a underhood light ?

Ihad a 99 that acted very simular , untill one night i seen the light shining from in under as i got close to the truck

No when i got the new battery i charged it for 24 hours.No it doesn't have a underhood light.I used the search engine and someone else hada similiar problem.They said they took it in to dealership and found the radio needed an update.It was draining his battery.Does this sound famaliar to anyone? I'll see if i can get it into dealership this week to check this problem out.

How did you charge the battery?

At what rate an amperage ?

you may have cooked it ,not saying you did ,but just a though.

Doubt it...unless he used an archaic POS charger...they all have overcharge protection now, and have for a number of years.
