Not wanting to spend the $ to retrofit OEM navi I was wandering who's using the portables,ie: Garmin,Magellan, etc and what you like or dislike about them. Im not a big fan of having something stuck to my windsheild or dash and would like to mount one below the ac panel just above where the center console meets the dash just not sure if the pick up the signals from there.

I have a garmin 255w I got a good deal on and it works great for what I need. Can also be used in your pocket if you are walking around away from the vehicle.

My gf got a tom tom 130S from her work Christmas party, and that is the GPS I use and it's portable and can be used handheld...

Garmin Nuvi 760 for 2-3 years now. I love it. Several Family members borrow it whenever they go on a trip.

Garmin is the way to go... I dont understand In-dash GPS's anyway, I think being able to let people borrow mine is a big bonus.

I own a Garmin 750 owned it for over a year and half and love it. I remember when I bought it I looked at all the others but decided to get Garmin because of something, I think it had to do with upgrading maps or something.

I recently bought a Garmin 1490T. I like it, but the POI name look-up is sloooooooooooow. I like everything else about it real well, but that slow (several minutes) look-up time is freaking annoying! :dunno:

I use a TomTom, 98% of the time it stays in my console because I am not a fan of having non-OEM electronics. When I am using it, I just set it on my console until I get where I'm going. Then it goes back in the console.
