Decided On Wheels

So I have pretty much decided on the Helo 835s for my truck. Two questions...what size rims do I order if I stay with 17s or go to 18s and what size / brand of tire? I want a good aggresive look, not loud. I want to level but I am having a hard time convincing my husband that leveling my truck is ok - someone mentioned once that I could level it without a kit - turning something(?) I don't know.

Also not sure if the machined black will look ok on the truck. The truck is midnight blue metallic, recently had the running boards removed and also seriously considering debadging. As I have said before, I am thinking the blue/black theme would look great.

Any suggestions / ideas would be greatly appreciated.

i'd stay stock size for rims, i was told that if you go to bigger rims without reprogramming it upsets the shift points and throws the speedo off....as far as tires, BF goodwrench all terrains are great but expensive, i put 100k on my last set and they still had tread lol...i got general at2 grabbers and they are great also, although noisey on the highway a little bit....as far as the leveling kit, alot of folks do it...it may wear out ball joints faster or it may not, depends if your hopping jumps or popping U turns...other option is to crank the torsion bars useing after market keys, which if you have a 1500 you cannot do because they are run coil overs, if you have a 2500 or 2500 with actual torsion bars its quite easy to do, and its safe...btw is this is a new body style or the 07 classic? if its the gmt-800 body style and a 4x4 you will have torsion bars...hope this helps

lol theres a lot of loaded questions there...

what size wheels?

what kind of wheels?

what size tires?

what brand of tires?

should you level it?

ill tell you right now.... you'll get 500 different answers because everyone is running different combinations.

for the wheel size, go with what YOU like.. 17 18 or 20s (or 22s?). the wheel size does not throw off the computer, its the tire diameter that you need to program for. BUT, if you stay under a 33" tire diameter you'll be fine and dont "have to" do any reprogramming.

from your other threads i believe you have a gmt900 1500 series truck right? that you mean you have coil springs... best way (IMO) to level these trucks, based on cost/benefit ratios, is the RC 2" kit.

so to answer your questions... i'd recommend:

RC 2" leveling kit

20x9 wheels of your liking with +18mm offset (5.7" backspace)

275/60/20 tires of your liking

Tracey...nice choice of rims! I just had my 835 Machine Black rims mounted Monday. I'm with Matt on the leveling. For around $70 shipped you can get the 2" leveling kit from Rough Country and it is a breeze to install. I had 18" stock rims and I went with an 18x9 Helo rim. I just took the tire size up. I tend to like a little more tire showing, so that is why I didn't go with a 20" or greater wheel.

Also, I think the Machined Black version would look fine on your truck. There is a guy on another truck forum that has the same rims on a tan (?) truck. They look good on his as well!

Tough decisions, but I think you will be happy with the 835s. Good Luck!! :uhoh:

UPDATE: I found some pictures that might help. Dark Blue Silverado w/ the Machined Black 835s...

Thanks for the link...it really helps to put the vision there for me. I like the look of your wheels and that is the look I'm going for..what tires do you have? Thanks again guys and Matt you are right about what truck I have.

Where did you get your rims from? I am going to shop around for sure for the best price and with the current state of the Canadian dollar I could see a trip across the border in my future...

Glad to help!

I decided to go with the Nitto Terra Grapplers (285/65/18). The reviews I read on-line were about 70% good and 30% bad. The real reason I went with them is that two guys here at work have them on their trucks and said they were great. One of the guys has them on a 2500 and they have roughly 45K miles. They are worn, but still have a lot of tread left. He is saving up right now for another set. The other guy has approximately 15K on his set and they look almost as good as my brand new set!

I bought my tire and wheel package through a local tire shop here in Concord, NC. Through work, we are given a SLIGHT" discount at this shop. I could have saved about $100 dollars if I had bought everything on-line and found a place to mount them. But the convenience factor made the difference in price worthwhile to me!!

Good luck with your search! Keep us posted!!

Here is a link in which you could buy from, I purchased my wheels from them for under $800 including shipping where as other stores who dont buy in "bulk" charge you more. Based off what you are wanting, you are looking at $560 for the wheels in 18x9 configuration. Dont know shipping cost, but its a start.

Plug in your information for the Helo and you are looking for is the link above doesnt directly take you to it, (works for me but my cookies still might be saved on this computer allowing it to happen).

I went with the largest tire [275/60/20] on my 08 ext cab with a readylift leveling kit in it.I love the look of the Helos but I could not get them easely in Canada. The tire your looking for sounds like either the Cooper Zeon LTZ or the Nitto Terra Grapplers.Rim choice is real personal and a good tire shop will hold up various rims for you to look at on your truck. If you shop around you can come close to online prices. It would have cost about $300 less online and for that I was guaranteed the proper fitment plus free lifetime balancing and flat repair plus I did not have to waste a half day driving to the border and back. There are pics of my cooper Zeons in the rims and rubber section.Ignore your hubby and lift that front end and swap out the tires and rims

This is a response (read below) that I got from a tire shop - the quote is for Mamba M2 rims - which are similar to the Helo835s. These rims are similar in style but I am unsure of their quality - if anyone can help me out with this it would be great.

My other question is - this seems a little expensive? I do have the option of taking my stock tires off the current rims and getting a 17" rim instead of going to 18 - but I really wanted to keep the stock 17s for winter so I can take the new rims off.

Can someone please help me understand that - the cost this guy is quoting me is reasonable, that the tires he is suggesting going to give me that 'aggresive' look I'm after and are they a good tire and can I put that size on my truck that came with the stock 17s? OR should I just go the 17" route

I'm so confused and my head is starting to hurt.

So we can do both sizes. The 265/60R18 or 265/65R18.

The difference between these two is that the 265/65R18 is exactly one inch taller than the 265/60R18. In addition, the 265/65R18 is more common and you will have alot more options apposed to the 265/60R18.

Here is what we can do for tires: 265/65R18

Bridgestone Dueler H/T - comes factory equipement for GM trucks which use 18 inch wheels stock $ 179 ea

Michelin LTX M/S 2 ( highly recommended) 115,000km warranty, the newest addition to the Michelin Truck line up $249 plus $60 rebate on a set of four (15$ per tire)

Rod

Dream Tire

So total package with the Michelin tires:

Rims 200 x 4 = 800

tires $249 x 4 = 996

tire tax 5.84 x 4 = 23.36

bolts = 45 set

total before taxes = 1864.36 plus tax =2106.72 less rebate = $2046.72
