Parking Brake Adjustment

Recommended Posts

I have a '99 c-2500 (8600 gvwr) reg cab auto trans. after me and my dad repalced the rear brakes the parking brake was dragging on the driver side. (enough to heat the drum up after a run on the highway) We took that side apart and re assembled it, it seems that the parkiing brake cable is "too short" inside the driverside drum and is causing the parking brake to partially activate and drag. The only adjustment for this i can see is on the brake cable, but this connects to the passangerside of the parking brake cable. Is there a way to adjust the driverside cable?

On the driver's side is where your park brake cable is running. They took and ran 1 wire all the way back to about mid-way under the bed (just before the rear end). Then it splits into 2. There is a long screw with a metal shroud around it. You have to hold the front cable (that comes from the front of the truck) and turn one or the other cables.

You're gonna have to spray it with PB Blaster and probably use a propane torch to heat it up. DON'T FORCE IT!! It will eventually move.

I ran into the same problem. I swapped rear ends and the park brake cable was WAY to short. I got home and smelt hot brakes. I could've cooked an egg on the drums.

I'll try to take a pic of the adjustment thing this weekend.
