2-400rms And 1-800rms; Same? Also, Sub Stats And Opinions...

OK, so if you have one 800 rms sub and 2 400 rms subs on the same setup and the same everything will they produce the same db's?

Also, I have an audiobahn 400rms 12 and sounds ok to me honestly. Ok, so I was messing around with the ebay application on iphone. I found an Alpine Type R 1242D model. Well, I went to click the "see description" section and the "buy now" button is so damn close the phone tapped "buy now" instead of the desrcription tab.

Anyhow, if I replace my audiobahn with the the Alpine what will I notice if anything? Also, my buddy and I were going back and forth about magnet size. The Audiobahn is 45ounces. The Alpine is 109ounces. What does the magnet size have to do with anything other than the speed at which a note can be hit? Again, anything noticeable? If not, then I might as well keep audiobahn and try to talk to the ebay seller to see if he can retract the sale as he has 15 listed in the same auction...

Here's the stats on both.

To me it kinda sounds like your comparing apples and oranges. You're talking about a run of the mill natural sound audiobahn nd a top of the line Alpine sub, seems like from the description theres alot more differences than just magnet size. It's like comparing a stock V8 to a cammed, supercharged & intercooled V8--sure they're both V8's but clearly one is packing way more heat lol

I hear you but could you give more details as to what and why?

Thanks....

In otherwords, 2 cheaper 400rms and one 800w. With the specs under the same amp and conditions, what would the difference be if any?

Also, in a separate scenario, what is the true difference? I have 1 12 audiobahn with the specs listed above. I accidently bought a type r on ebay. Is there going to be that much of a diffeence bc if not, Im going to just sell the darn type r. The type r have 500 rms. The new model has 600rms but bought this last yr model by mistake.

So what do you think? Give me details and reasons my friend....

Of the features listed, you can look at some things like the heat venting, the Alpine is clearly geared towards managing the heat build-up as well as getting it out of there--

Custom Cast Aluminum Frame with Integrated Perimeter Venting and Heat Transfer Plate

Cast aluminum perimeter vented heat transfer frame

Compound Radius Curve (CRC) Motor structure

Spiral cut aluminum former with high temperature DVC Winding

Radial Vented VC Heat sink and Airflow Management System

There are also alot of other features not listed to consider like the sensitivity. The higher the sensitivity rating, the more it can do with the power its given, or the less power it takes to do what it does. Also look at required airspace, that alot of times determines what sub(s) you can even use. Sometimesyour mind gets pretty much made up for you lol I am not a huge fan of Alpine, but I use them because they were the best choice for a sub that would fit behind the seats in my 06 cc (had to be right around 6 inches max depth as well as perform with around .65 cu/ft of airspace). Alot of it is also personal preference too though, these were the first subs I have ever bought that weren't MTX, and I have owned ALOT of stereos using MTX and I just always loved the way they sounded, looked, everything about them.

Just for the record I have a kicker 800.2 and a prefab ported box for a single sub.....

So they rule goes never go with a sub that's over the rms rating of the amp.

What 12 would you suggest with this setup?

Here's the box....

How big is the box? (cubic feet) And also, is the sub the only thing you will be running off the amp? In other words, will it be bridged for just the sub, because some subwoofers only come in certain voice coil and impedance configurations. Like my amp is an MTX 801D which is just a sub amp, thats it. So to run the alpines I had to get dual 2 ohm subs and wire them in series. I use a different 4 channel amp for all my door speakers. If you are just running one sub and your amp is a regular 2 channel amp, then I would bridge the amp and get a dual 4 ohm speaker and wire it in parallel to get 2ohms out of it. And as far as the rms rating goes, if you boght your amp new, any legit amp (kicker is def. included in that) should have a birth certificate. My amp is rated for 500 rms and 800 peak. The birth certificate and also my own bench tests put it around 590 rms and around 900 peak. But for sure check the volume of the box because you can have the best subwoofer in the world and with a crappy/wrong sized box you're gonna get lame performance.
