Check the cooler lines

Mine does not have a cooler on it but it has a total of 4 high pressure lines and 2 low pressure return lines. From pump two high pressure lines go to the brake booster and two go to the steering box and then one low pressure comes back from brake booster and one from steering box??? :(

Clean off all the lines and around the steering box with brake clean or some water and dish liquid to make them as clean as possible...fill the PS reservoir, start the truck and work the steering for about 15-20 min. You should be able to detect a leak than.

Sir,

If leaking from a hose or fitting, replace or repair. If leaking from rack seals add 1/2 can STP engine oil treatment. The thick stuff for old engines. It really works. As long as you are not in the arctic anyway. Let us all know how it works.

I have done this to 8 vehicles with rack and pinion steering and it works very well. It is my current 2000 Silverado.

Good luck.

Ken
