I must be vain...

I just got done washing my truck and was looking at it and admiring the fine job I did when I spotted something.

There behind the rear wheel was this big 3 1/2" slash cut stainless pipe that GM so graciously gave me with my truck.

I went and grabbed my can of NeverDull and a clean rag and went to work on it.  After about 1/2 hour it started looking pretty darn nice!!!  I still have some more work to do on it and I may need to use something more than elbow grease, but I figure another 1/2 hour should finish it up!!!

Now that is VAIN!!!

Try some really fine steel wool, then polish it again with the compound, it should shine like chrome!!

Don't ask me how I know that, I must be pretty vain, too....

Shaners, I really like your all pewter truck.  Actually, the color of the stainless tailpipe is also a varient of the color "pewter" wouldnt you say?

Seriously, its a nice looking truck....

Thanks for the pic post Mervz...  I would've posted them myself but my acct at Photopoint is no longer there...

Thanks for the compliment too Newbie.  In fact I was thinking of removing the somewhat Gawdy 4x4 decal and going with the straight monotone look...

I have to admit, GM sure went all out with the exhaust system on the HD's.  I'm sure this large of an exhaust was designed for the DMax, but its nice they went with it on the gas motors as well.  Are the gas exhaust systems mandrel bent?

I have to say, that using your elbow grease really paid off.  That looks great.  How far back on the pipe did you polish?

I only polished the last 10" or so.  Yes the exhaust (even for the 6.0L) is 3 1/2" and is mandrel bent and all stainless, but I don't know what grade they used.

This is the strangest looking exhaust I've seen and must be big $ to replace.  The "Y" pipe is behind the muffler and right in front of the rear axle.

With an exhaust this big you get a low rumble out of it while sitting still.  It kinda sounds like an exhaust from a small block I/O boat.

I wouldn't say vain, just utilizing free time this summer.  Cuz I'd bet that the chances of Shaners being outside for an hour, cleaning the January PA road muck of that tailpipe next winter, are slim to none!!  ;)

Yup, lets see how shiney it is on February 1!!! I wonder if there is something you could put on it to keep it clean and shiney?  It gets so hot I doubt anything would help.

I don't know, because in one of his pictures I seen that he has a garage.  If he truely is vain, he could always park the truck in the garage and polish away.  LOL

I had polished stainless tips on my Borla I used to have and they would come clean with a quick swipe from a sponge or a paper towel in the winter.

I'm going to get some fine steel wool and finish it up.  I may go a little further back under the truck too...
