1988 K1500 Fuel Problem

I've got a 1988 K1500 that is having fuel problems. I changed the pump for about the 100th time a few weeks ago and truck ran fine for a few weeks, then while stopped one day it started idling fast so i shut it off and now it won't start back. Changed fuel filter and still doesn't appear to be getting any fuel to the injectors. Pump sounds like it is running. Could there be something wrong with the line b/t the filter and the engine?

Possible but I'd check the fuel pressure first, I think it is around 45psi for a min but I'll have to check on that. If you don't have access to a gauge then you would need to carefully disconnect the line and have it pump the fuel into a container once you turn on the key (don't turn it to crank and expect it to come out pretty hard so have a helper to shut off the ignition right away if it squirts!).

 

If it pumps fuel into the container then you know it is clear that far. You can do this again at the TBI but since the filter would clog first it shouldn't be necessary. (a pinched line somewhere is something else to think about too if you off-road)

 

Check for pulse current with a test bulb or meter to the injectors while cranking if the pump is working. Post what you find.
