FeetDry Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 2000 Sonoma 4.3L I'm trying to pass an emissions inspection, and running out of time. The problem is the O2 heater test is taking a long time to "ready". All other test are "ready". (The truck runs fine, there are no emissions issues.) Is this a single test, or does it need 50 cycles to complete? How many warm-up cycles do I need to complete? Is there some way to speed up the O2 heater test? (Why is it taking so dam long to complete?) Thanks

ColoradoSkiCountry Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 O2 Sensors generally are good up till about 100,000 then they start crapping out. Very important to note that an 02 sensor going out won't always throw a check engine light. Let me ask you this. Just what 02 heater test are you referring to? Over here, they throw your 82 and newer vehicle on the dyno as part of the I/M 240 or 280 test. As long as the readings coming out the tail pipe are at acceptable levels and your check engine light is not on (must come on when you turn the key to run but must go out after the vehicle is running) your truck should pass. A very important rule is to always run your vehicle at highways speeds for about 10-15 min to allow the engine and sensors to reach normal operating temps before taking it in to be tested.
FeetDry Posted May 24, 2010 Author Posted May 24, 2010 Here, obd1 vehicles get the dyno test. Odb2 vehicles get an I/M read & a gas cap test. I/M is telling me that the O2 heater is not-ready. It does not tell me which of the 3 sensors are not ready. The sensors are less than 40K miles old. odb2.com reports that GM's O2 heater I/M test happens w/in the first 3 minutes of engine-On. I have never seen this happen, this quick. It is usually on the order of 10+ start cycles. I was hoping to find a faster way to get the heater test done.
