Trailer Wiring - Hot Feed To Trailer ?

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have a 2005 Suburban with the towing package.

I bought an enclosed trailer with ceiling lights which were not working because my feed from my trailer plug was not hot ( my electric brakes work fine.)

After doing some research I read to install a 40 amp fuse in stud #1 in the under hood fuse box, the owners manual says B+ "do not install fuse". Others have posted that is where to put the fuse???

I went ahead and put a fuse in that terminal and the spade on my connector is now hot.

The only thing I don't like about it is the spade is always hot.......

Is there another connection that would only be hot when the ignition is on?

If you do not want it hot all the time you could buy a relay at the auto parts store and put it inline with the circuit then find a switched circuit to activate it only when the vehicle's key is on.
