Hybrid Question

Just wondering how the 09+ Silverado Hybrids work. Is it still possible to do a intake, exhaust, chip/tune, etc? And whats the power like from factory? I know its a 6.0L but is it comparable to a 5.3L AFM?

Basically the engine itself isn't very different however, I would strongly advise against messing with it. The ecm is not flashed seperately on those. Instead it's done as a sequence, reflashiing every powertrain and brake related module and they all must match. There are several things that need to be setup after any reflash on a hybrid. I have no idea if any aftermarket cals are even available but frankly... I wouldnt mess with it

I have a feeling that it's not for engine modifications and messing with, but for folks who want to drive a pretty cool Tahoe or Silberado, it's an excellent rig.

 

The gal who owns our local pet store owns a Tahoe Hybrid that is about one year old. No, she is not a modder, but she puts a hellacious number of miles on her rig. And she loves the heck out of it.

 

Interestingly, she is NOT getting the 20-20 mileage that is claimed. She hand-calculates and her mileage is MUCH HIGHER than the EPA claim. Gay told me lately that she can absolutely count on 25 mpg around town and 23-25 on the freeway.

 

And she says that the 6.0 engine, even when linked to the weenie 3.08 rear end, is a frickin' race car.

 

Hell, I'd buy one. Too bad they don't make an LTZ or one in Victory Red ... I might just have done that when we bought our truck last month.
