Reverse Camera, Anyway For It To Come On By Demand?

I have a 2010 silverado with the factory rearview camera option. I installed an AVIC x910 pioneer headunit and it also has the back up camera input. I ran the camera to the pioneer and it works flawlessly. My question is can the camera be fooled to come on at pretty much anytime? Something need to be switched? I haul Motorcycles a lit and this option would be awesome to keep a check on the bike.

Thanks

If I am understanding you correctly, you installed a Pioneer Nav unit with the factory camera and when you put the vehicle in reverse, the camera comes on? I don't know how the factory camera is wired to the Pioneer (I have an aftermarket camera). If you have gotten that far, my inexperience with how that camera is wired shouldn't matter. In my situation I split the reverse wire (just made a "Y") on the head unit (your Pioneer) and had one of the leads going to the reverse wire from the BCM. This step should already be done if your camera turns on when you shift into reverse. Then I took the other end of the "Y" from the reverse wire on the head unit to a switch on the dash. Then I ran a power lead and ground to the switch. When you flip the switch, the power source sends power to the reverse wire and the HU thinks the truck is in reverse thus turning on the camera. Works like a charm. This method does turn on your back up lights as well. I like it this way, but it does freak people out behind you. It helps at night. You would have to add a relay if you didn't want your back-up lights coming on while using the switch.

I ran an rca to the rear view mirror and soldered them to the leads going into the mirror so that the mirror and the pioneer shows up at the same time when in reverse. So your saying that the factory reverse wire at the head unit can be switched to a positive to activate the camera while driving forward but will aslo activate the reverse light (no big deal to me either)?

I have an aftermarket camera so I'm not sure if its different but on my Avic-X910BT I can go to the media chooser and press rear view at any time and it turns the camera on.
