Suburban Idle/no Start Problem

Well, I have an issue with my GMC and was thinking maybe you guys could help me. When I bought it it had a rough idle, it would surge and drop on it's own. Then on the high way it would accelerate by itself and then drop. I was told by the person I bought it from that the TPS was bad, so I changed that and it didn't help. Now recently I've had issues starting it, it will turn over but not start and while turning it over I got a cloud of smoke from the exhaust. The vehicle is a 88 GMC Suburban with a 350.
