Swapping Out Radios

Just purchased a 2010 Sierra Ext Cab with the basic am/fm radio. I have located an upgrade GMC unit (P/N 26966515) with cd, etc, that is supposed to be a drop in upgrade. My questions is - How do I remove the dash portion that hides the radio brackets/screws etc without breaking the dash?

BTW - Great site! I'm pumped about all the great tips on it AND I've only been on it two days! :P

Thanks - Is there a site I can check to see if a specific radio part number will "fit" my Truck? There are numerous part numbers being offered for sale but I would like to make sure it fits before I purchase one...

Removing the dash portion is actually pretty easy. The portion of the dash that covers your radio goes from the steering column and instrument cluster to the side of the radio by the glove box. This piece is only supported by clips, so it pops off pretty easy. FYI, the portion that gives me the most trouble popping off is the portion nearest the steering column, but with a little working with it and patience, it come off. To get full access, you'll have to unplug the connectors for the 4WD (if you have it) and climate controls. I've done it a few times while installing my iPod adaptor and everything pops in nice and neat. Have fun with your new truck!
