2003 Silverado Clearance Lights

I just ordered my fantasy truck; '03 2500HD DMAX/Allison, Crew, LT, SB, Pewter with all the bells and whistles except the rear DVD screen.  

 

I live in Ca. so I had to order the truck with the California emmissions package.  However, by doing this, the computer prevents me from ordering the clearance light option

 

My question to any of you is why can't I order the clearance lights as an option if its has the California emmisons package?

Maybe it is a drag co-efficent thing. Though the clearance lights seem to be streamlined.

Wonder what they do on the trucks like the Denali and Quadrasteer-equipped trucks on which they are standard or required?

I'm thinking I remember it might have something to do with the fact that you can only have clearance lights in CA if the truck has dual rear wheels...

Shane you are almost correct. It has to do with the width of the vehicle. For some reason 80 inches come to mind. The fender flairs on the trucks with quadra steer cause the truck to be wide enough to warrent cab lights. Now how CA tied that into emissions laws is kinda strange. They equate wider vehicles with bigger i.e Doolies and tractor trailers. Bigger trucks have less emission requirements.

That is why I asked about the Denali and QS.  I don't see why it would preclude you from ordering them as an option on a truck with a less than 80-inch width.
