How To Relieve Fuel Pressure?

hi,

 

I need to change fuel pressure regulator and i do not know how to relieve the fuel pressure. I have a 99 sierra 5.3 L.

Straight out of the GM service info:

 

1..Disconnect the negative battery cable in order to avoid possible fuel discharge if an accidental attempt is made to start the engine. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure in Engine Electrical.

 

2. Remove the engine sight shield. Refer to Engine Sight Shield Replacement in Engine Mechanical.

 

3. Loosen the fuel filler cap in order to relieve the fuel tank vapor pressure.

 

4. Connect the J 34730-1A to the fuel pressure valve. Wrap a shop towel around the fitting while connecting the gauge in order to avoid spillage.

 

5. Install the bleed hose of the gauge into an approved container.

 

6. Open the valve on the gauge to bleed the system pressure. The fuel connections are now safe for servicing.

 

7. Drain any fuel remaining in the gauge into an approved container.

Or just do it the regular guy way, and crank it up then pull the fuel pump relay under the hood. Then, after it shuts off, try to crank it. If it doesn't crank, you've successfully relieved fuel line pressure.

Yeah, I live in Georgia and every time I step out the house my glasses fog over. It's hot this year, but I still don't believe in global warming. That's another story though.
