how would I go about taking this massive emblem off?

 

the tailgate paint is original I thinkm, so will the paint under the banner be a different color due to not seeing any sun?

 

And will any of the old glue maybe not come off.

 

has anyone done this before, what were the results?

If you follow the directions in this thread, HERE, you should be able to get it off without damaging it.  Be prepared to use a lot of fishing line and for it to take a while with this one.

Forgot this, it's pretty likely that the paint may be a different shade under the emblem.  Cleaner (after getting all the adhesive off of it), shinier, and newer looking.  If it is, and you don't mess up or bend the big emblem, you could always reinstall it using some 3M double sided tape.  I'd use a lot though.  I'd hate to see that big thing fly off going down the road.

well, since its such a big spot, I think I'll wait untill I get it painted in a few years. Thanks for the replies though
