Fuel Tank Question

I have a 2010 GMC Sierra extended cab, standard box sle with the 5.3

Everything I have looked at tells me I have a 98 L gas tank, yet I have noticed by the time my fuel gauge gets on empty, and the DIC starts telling me I am low on fuel, and fuel range shows less than 60 km my liters used is only sitting at 85l.

Infact right now my fuel range is saying about 50km, but I've only used 85l. Now I filled my tank about as much as I think I can, fuel guage was all the way to the top.

Where are the other ten liters? Are they still there and the truck just likes to alert me early so I can have time to fill up? (even though I could go almost 100km on ten liters) or is there still room to fit more fuel when I fill up?

I know with my 96 Suburban I had a gas pump guy fill it for me once and he actually managed to bring the fuel guage almost 1/4 tank past Ffull, maybe this is what I need to do with thre Sierra?

Fill it until the pump kicks off. Don't try to top off. Overfilling can cause issues to emission system parts located under the truck. A 26 gal. (98L) tank is what you have on an extended cab. When it's telling you it's time to fill up, you've got 3.5 gallons left. The DIC figure is an estimate of fuel used. I also wouldn't be in the habit of always running your tank down to almost fumes. Sometimes electric fuel pumps don't like that. Are you one of those guys that likes to live dangerously and see how far you can go before you run completely out? :P

I don't normally run it til it's bone dry. Money has been short lately so I find myself running low a lot lately.

But thank you, that explains everything. I figured the truck would tell me to fill up before it was actually empty but I didn't really think it would leave that much in the tank.

Coming home from a trip I was in the middle of nowhere and found out that there comes a time the dic says fuel range-low.

One closed exit and 31 miles later I filled up and put in I thought 24.6 gallons. They give you a decent reserve.
