Lower Dash Removal?

I finally have some time and I'd like to install my BT VCIM into my 2010 Silverado LT. From what I've been told, my VCIM should be located behind the lower dash panel (not behind the radio bezel). My truck has a factory CD/XM/non-Nav radio and manual A/C & heating controls. I have no center console. I do have the fold-up storage/center seat.

 

I'm told in this configuration, the VCIM is located behind the lower dash bezel but I have no idea how it's removed and I don't want to force anything.

 

Any pics, write-ups or personal experiences are greatly appreciated.

I spent $5 for a days access to repairprocedues.com. Well worth it as I wouldn't have otherwise easily figured this out.

 

To remove the Instrument Panel Lower Center Trim, you must first remove the dash end panel on the far left (instrument panel outer trim cover), which exposes the fuse box. From there, you must remove the lower dash panel beneath the steering column (knee bolster). There are two screws on the bottom of the knee bolster and one bolt. It's a little difficult to see the bolt but if you look straight up from underneath, you'll see it. The bolt is closest to the screw that's nearest the drivers door.

 

Once the knee bolster beneath the steering column is removed, you'll see three screws on the Instrument Panel Lower Center Trim, just left of the ash tray. Remove these three screws and the lower center panel will pull off. It's retained with several clips after the screws are removed.

 

I did also pop the radio/heater trim just a bit because this snaps in place on top of the lower center panel cover. I didn't need to fully remove the radio bezel...I just popped the bottom clips.

 

Once removed the VCIM was very easy to access.

 

Hope this helps someone in the future.

And does the bluetooth work and retain OnStar?

The Bluetooth works flawlessly.

 

The red light is illuminated and the blue OnStar button does not work. The emergency button does work.

 

I called OnStar several times yesterday and played dumb ("I have a red light and I don't know why. It was at the dealership and maybe they replaced some hardware???")

 

They did several 10+ minute uploads but ultimately, still a red light. I'm still reading through the archives but I'm thinking I'll have to go to the dealership and have them connect with their computer (Tech2?) to reconfigure the system.

 

It's a 2010 Silverdao.
