Removing Grill?

I bought one of those plastic chrome oem knock off grill inserts when i first got the truck off ebay. It presses right into the stock black grill and has lil clip sections on it. I was cleaning between the mesh on it today with a soft tooth brush and the plastic chrome started flaking off on me. Leaving gold underneth looking like ass now. Any way to unconnect the pressed in insert with out breaking the stock grill behind it? or am i stuck buying a new grill.. Thanks
