New Truck Question

hey all....

ive been looking at a new truck... mostly 2010 ltz silverados....i have noticed that all the trucks ive looked at with 6.2l's are crew cab trucks with 3.42 gears and 20" tires....

my question is...

is there a reason why all the trucks have 3.42 gearing??? is it because of the 20" tires???

also does the 6.2 come in a extended cab truck??? or is it just the crew cab???

i realize that the trucks im looking at are leftovers so maybe the truck i want is already sold.......

I don't believe you can get the 6.2 in the extended cab, and the 20" wheels do come with the 3.42 gears. Trucks with the NHT come with 3.73 gears and 17" wheels.

You can get a 6.2 in the ext cab trucks. Started in the 2010 MY

No Steven,You can get the 6.2 in the extended-cab,I was looking at one earlier in the year if you remember.

And yes,the only way to get 3.73's is to get the "NHT" package, and thats limited to 17" wheels,However you can get 17's,18's,or 20's with the 6.2/3.42 combo.

I just went to GMC's website and tried to build one.. Prior to my edit, I though you could get one, but when I tried to "build" one, it wasn't an option..

are there any down falls to 3.42 gears??? i dont do much towing...i pull a 18 foot boat couple times a year and my truck box trailer once in awhile....but 90% of my driving is on the hi way.....

also is the 3.42 gears a g80 locker??? that g80 has come in handy in the snow where i live...

I'm pretty sure getting the 6.2 automatically gets you the heavier duty rear-end and G80...even with 3:42's. As far as being worried about the 3:42 gears...with the new 6-speed transmission, they're great. It's a completely different animal than the old 4-speeds and 3:42's.

Yep,The 6.2 trucks (and the 6.0 trucks from '07-'09) get the 9.5" rear axle, also all 6.2 trucks get 4-wheel disc brakes (6.0 trucks got rear-discs if they had Stabilitrak)

I also wouldn't worry about the 3.42's w/the 6-spd.
