Tire care....

Messing around in the driveway tonight and noticed my tires are getting more and more filthy looking.  Have washed them with scrub brush, soap etc. but never look clean.  I have the GM polished chrome rims and have read that some products are bad to use on the rims because they promote rust and discoloration.  Same with tires, read about some that cause the rubber to deteriorate.  I like the clean new look not the shiny fake "jelled" looking stuff.

What do you use for cleaning your tires and rims?

I've used Wesley's bleach white to clean the tires for years.  It works great for getting all the grime off and it makes the white letters very clean and white.  I use that no touch tire care spray foam.  If you just spray it and leave it, it seems to leave a more shiney look.  I don't really care for that myself, so what I've found, and do, is after letting it set for a few minutes to run and cover all the tire, I take an old towel and wipe the tire down really well to get all the extra liquid off.  It still makes the tire really clean and a little bit shiney, but not wet looking.  I have the aluminium wheel so I use Eagle One aluminum wheel spray.  It works really well.  I think they make a line that is for chrome wheel too, but don't know for sure.

On a side note,  about the no touch tire care that I use.  I bought about 25 cans of that stuff back in like '93 or so and havn't bought it since.  I still have a few cans left.  When the Western Auto store was still open here, they had a sale paper with a coupon for a can of it for 50 cents.  It didn't say it was only good at Western Auto, so I tried using them at Wal-Mart, K-Mart, and Roses.  All of them honored the coupon.  So I went back and got a whole stack of the sale papers and every time I went to town for the next month or so, until the coupon expired, I made a stop at each of those stores and got a can for 50 cents.  LOL.  Even funnier was that I gave some coupons to my dad and when he came down to visit, he did the same thing.  He also used them in WV after he got back home.  I don't think h's bought any since then either.  LOL.

Wesley's gets my vote. I also use the spray foam stuff. These products are safe for clearcoat wheels. I usually (often) follow-up with a very light cover of Zaino (Z-2)

You have to watch which Eagle One wheel cleaner you buy, they have two or three types.  I use the Eagle One Type B on my UNcoated aluminum wheels, it is an etching cleaner for bare metal, and it specifically says not for use on clear coated, painted, or polished wheels.

As for tire cleaner, I've been using Maquires Endurance, you wipe it on with an applicator, not too shiny, lasts a long time before reapplication, looks great.  The only drawback is that you need to clean the tire first, then apply the stuff, but for my Corvette it is the only way to go.  I especially like the wipe on nature, since tire cleaners that spray on can damage my wheels.

Have also used Wesley's, seems like good stuff, but have only used one can.

I use the Meguire's Endurance too!  Great stuff, lasts about a week or two if it doesn't rain.  I washed my truck last Thursday and put one coat on.  Sorry for makin' it rain.  I think it might have been my fault.  LOL!  But the meguire's held up, even through the heavy stuff.

Newbie,

I bought a can of Westley's foaming tire cleaner today and it's exactly what you're looking for!!!  You spray it on and wait 10 minutes.  When it dries it leaves your dirty tires clean and black!!!  Not shiney like ArmorAll or some of the other foaming cleaners.  There is a dull shine, but not a glossy shine, and it was the cheapest stuff on the shelf too!!!  It's the closest you'll come to a "new" tire look with out any work!!!

Right now i m using that armor all foaming cleaner for the rubber..  It has done a great job so far..  I keep switching wheel cleaner... I have gone with eagle one, but i didnt realize it until i used it once and it was the one for not clear coated rims *DOH* so i stopped and now i just really clean them by hand..

Thanks guys, I am going to try the Westleys this weekend.  I have some marks (I believe from the dealer/factory) on the tires that are still hanging around and I hope it takes them off at last.
