Gus was the name of my dog that I had to put down almost three years ago at 14 due to cancer. He was a Pit Bull/Bassett?/Golden Retriever mix. Your dog looks a lot like the neighbor's dog that attacked Gus over Katie, another neighbor's dog that was "very popular" certain times of the year. Gus was a real wuss unless attacked. Several dogs made that mistake during his life, a couple were hurt really bad. One German Shepherd (120 pounds) had a large section of his face removed by Gus one Sunday afternoon. I really miss him, he was the "best" dog I ever had....

Gus is a Great Pyrennes, originated in France. Right now he weighs about the same as me we think, about 140-150 pounds, just can't find a scale big enough to weigh him. He may be big, but he's completely harmless. His size and deep bark have backed a few people back to their cars, all he really wants to do is play. Most dogs play fetch with a tennis ball, not this one, he uses a soccer ball.

Gus won't be a good herding dog, he's too slow. He is pretty good with them, goes out in the lot and plays with the calves, never works them up any. These dogs were orginally used to protect flocks of sheep, they didn't actually chase away the predators, but their size and noise scared them away. This breed becomes what it is with most of the time. If it is with sheep, it thinks of itself as a sheep, if with cows, it thinks its a cow. Gus thinks he is human.
