How To Id Hd Th400?

Can someone tell me how to tell me if I have the heavy duty (TH475)? It has a fixed yoke and came out of an early '80s Chevy cube van. The HD version has straight cut planetary gears.

Thanks

The easiest way is by the shape of the pan and/or the # of bolts here's more

Darn, I just crawled out from under the 76 Camper Special. Obviously someone switched out the transmission because the gasket and bolt pattern are for the TH250 instead of what it was supposed to come with, a TH400. Not complaining, just discouraged.

Well, I guess it could be a TH350 but I'll have to check further. Same bolt pattern and gasket shape.

Oops, another error. The M40 code on the tag inside the glove box means a TH350 for a small block and TH400 for the big block.

Very confusing.

So which engine do you have? Can't imagine GM putting a TH350 behind a 454.I had a '77 GMC Camper Special,454,TH400...best truck I ever had('til my son hit a tree & totaled it)
