Quick Fatory Remote Start Question

i was looking through the forums search feature because i know some gm vehickles have a factory remote start option you can buy. a friend of mine had this in her car. anyways, i came up with a little info and it said to check my glovebo for ap8 on the spid label. im wondering if this applys to only a certain year and newer gm truck or any? i have an 06 sierra slt. also i have a viper sst 2 way paging system in my explorer right now im debating removing and re installing into this thing. i love the way it works, has a 1 mile range, but im selling the explorer so im just toying with the idea of leaving it in there to increase its resale and appeal a little bit and jsut buy another remote start for this thing. anyways factory remote start, i see some trucks can get it, some cant, some people seem to say not to waste time with it but really im not worried about range, i park the truck 5 feet from my house so im sure itll reach

If you plan on being inside you house, or in other places, I'd go for an aftermarket, Viper 5301 or something similar that uses a 2 way remote, that way it will still have very good range (better than factory by far) and you'll be able to see by the light on the remote that allows you to see if it it locked, running, and even check the temp inside the vehicle.

 

I have the 5301 in my truck, and my dad's 08 has factory remote start, and my range and useability is much better IMO.

oh i know the vipers have a fantastic range, my viper pager remote has a a 1 mile range and tells me what its doing. i just didnt want to spend the money on another one as the damn thing isnt cheap, lol. ill look into the models you mentioned and see how much i canfind one for with installation. thanks alot

damn, missed it by 1 year huh, lol. oh well, i would have loved an 07 as im a big fan of the new body style but the 07 was 10 grand more than my 06.
