Hi i just replace my transmission with a used one. i burnt out 3/4 clutches on previous ones.

I can not get it to shift out of 1st gear into 2nd or any other for that matter. I have reverse and 1st gear it does not matter if i try to manually shift. even when i step on the throttle lightly it revs way up and when i get about 5k rpm it seems like its neutral nothing there at all not even a little grab. I tried replacing the 1-2 and 3-4 solenoids from my old transmission but still same thing happening. Anyone able to help me out please!!!!

2001 gmc sierra 1500 4x4 4l60e with manual shift transfer case. Transmission came from a 2002 with auto shift transfer case which i swapped.

Steven .. it seems that the used transmission that you installed, was as bad or worse off the the one you removed....

Installing a used transmission is a crap shoot.... you need to take one of those transmissions to a repair shop that you trust and get a total torque converter and transmission rebuild with some upgraded clutch parts....

.. or go to a GM dealer and order a newly remanufactured GM transmission... you get a pretty good warranty with it .. something like 3 years ...

yes Rod ,3 yrs ,is awesome i put 1 in my truck before i left the general for the discount and the warranty lol

it was better for me than rebuilding it

I agree the 3yr warranty is great...

when my 4L60E transmission died 1 1/2 years ago... I needed it back on the road in 24 hours to start my vacation pulling a travel trailer...

so I had it rebuilt at a local shop here in Saskatoon... in the shop Monday at noon for diagnosis and out at 3pm Tuesday with the transmission rebuilt ... I only got a 1 year warranty, but at least I can go look the rebuilder in the eye and ask questions if there is ever any problems ... everything has been OK so far... no regrets putting the money into the total rebuild.

ya ,i did lots of those as a tranny guy up north ,my time for a 60 or an 80 was 9 hrs (4wd) total time but i was always behind with 3 waiting ,was nuts

Does anyone have some suggestions on what could be wrong with this one or what i can test?

It's going to need to diagnosed for certain by someone in person that knows what they're doing. That being said, you have one as bad or worse than the one you took out. The only fix is to rebuild or buy a rebuilt.

What did it cost to have it rebuilt? I think mine is toast now....I have a 1994 GMC Sierra SLE Ext. cab, 1500 2 wheel drive. Is it worth putting money into? The truck has 288,000kms. It runs great and looks awesome...but is shifting hard now.

well they want 1800 bucks here to rebuild it. gonna take it down to tranny shop next week hopefully its a in the pan fix

Probably will need a full rebuild.

my two cents worth...

- IMO, any GMT 400 truck (1988-1998) in generally good condition is worth the maintenance costs (except until the frame gets rusted out....)

- yes, depending on where you are on this continent, your GM remanufactured transmission or a total torque conveter and transmission rebuild will cost you $1400 to $1800 plus R&R labour, plus taxes ....

- it may hurt at first, but it is still cheaper than buying a new truck, and as I said above our classic trucks were built for longevity, and the newer ones are suspect on this

Rod that is very good to hear your opinion. It may have just changed my mind about selling "old blue". My 1994 GMC Sierra is a great looking truck and seems to only have this transmission issue now. I would like a new vehicle but love the old truck too.....oh what to do. I know that no one will pay squat for a used 1994..that is the saddest part.
