Whipple Supercharger Oil Change

Recommended Posts

Posted

Just picked up an 04' Yukon XL 2500 8.1L w/a whipple charger+intercooler. I would like to change the oil in the charger, but can't find anything explaining the best way to do this. I know I can get the oil at my local GM dealer, but I know nothing about how much capacity one of these units has. Anyone out there have some experience with Whipple?

Did you to the WhippleCharger website? Or maybe their tech support?

How many miles on the supercharger? If I'm remembering correctly, Whipple said that they're good for 100k miles before needing oil...And at that point, you're better off sending them the whole unit for them to go through and rebuild/lube.

On mine (sitting on a 454) there is a drain plug on the side. Its a bit messy to get the oil out. Once out, use a clear plastic bottle, sort of what they use as refillable for ketchup/mustard, and squirt the oil in from the top. On mine, there is a tiny stainless cap near the front of it that you can open with an allen key. There is a tiny dip-stick attached to it. I forgot what oil they originally recommended, but Whipple tech support seemed fine with me putting Mobil-1 15w50 into it.

I have been to their website, and they offer a document stating the type of oil to use for each model. Not a walkthrough oil change however. Contacting tech support will be my next step.
