on news chan. 11 they are talking to the sheriff.  the chase started about 2 hours ago.  at one point there were chilren in the truck, but they were released before the chase began.  the husband (holding the wife hostage) did fire shots at the police.  they are headed for the virginia border.  this is really horrible, i hope the woman makes it though this and her husband is arrested.

they made it into virginia.  the police finally used spike stips and the truck went off the road.  they are chasing the gun man in the woods now.  the kids (3 of them) are OK, no word on the woman tho.

this is truly horrible.  after the truck crashed, the ex-husband shot the woman, killing her.  he then shot himself in the woods.  this is horrible.  it's just not fair that it has to end like this.  can you imagine being kidnapped, forced to run from police, then shot?   :D   :D   :)   :(

here is more info... apparently the victim had moved to NC from FL to get away from her kidnapper.  he also had the intent to kill or cause serious harm to her the whole time the chase was going on (she wasn't just an escape driver for him).

the police talked to them by cell phone for much of the chase.  unfourtuanately the kidnapper was not clamed or pursuaded to stop.  i wish the police had taken him out before he even made it out of raleigh.

it makes me so mad that this happened.  she tried so #### hard to save her life and the lives of those around her.  she tried to calm the man down, she tried to be as safe a driver as she could be.  she was a fighter, i wish that she could have lived.  now there are 3 kids with no mother.  :D

Gunman Who Led Authorities On Two-State Chase Shoots Ex-Wife, Self

Domestic Incident Led To Chase Throughout Triangle Area, Va.

Kamal Wallace, Staff Writer

POSTED: 5:54 p.m. EDT September 23, 2002

UPDATED: 9:13 p.m. EDT September 23, 2002

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Authorities say a man killed his ex-wife and shot himself after leading authorities for hours on a high-speed chase throughout the Triangle area and Virginia.

Authorities say the incident began around 5 p.m. Monday on Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh when they received a domestic call. They say the man took his ex-wife and her children, ages 4 and 7, hostage with a gun.

However, authorities say the children were released early in the chase, where they were later taken to the hospital for observation.

The man then forced his ex-wife at gunpoint to drive around the Triangle area in a white pickup truck. The high-speed chase led authorities around the Beltline and later on I-40 West.

The vehicle later headed northbound on I-85 through Petersburg, Va., where authorities decided to use stop sticks.

Authorities said when the truck pulled off to the side of the road, the man shot his ex-wife and went into the woods where he later shot himself.

Authorities say the chase reached speeds of up to 90 miles per hour. At one point in the chase, the man and woman in the vehicle could be seen changing clothes.

Authorities say the man in the vehicle fired shots at police and other civilians.

Raleigh Police Capt. D.S. Overman said the couple had an ongoing, longtime dispute. He was unclear about led to the shootings and declined to release their names.

Stay tuned to WRAL-TV and WRAL.com for further updates to this developing story.

im still really pissed about this.  5 years ago Lourdes Gusman (the victim) left FL to get away from Roberto Campos.  yet he came after her.  that is 5 years the courts had to put that nut job in jail... 5 YEARS!  this should have never happened.  the courts need to do a better job of protecting people in this kind of abusive situation.

That is an awful story Paco. I feel so bad for those kids.

I have a sister who was kidnapped by her ex-boyfreind. He beat her up pretty good in front of her four year old daughter before they were caught.

    • This is a really late reply but I just found this thread. They won't sell the hinges. I've gone 7 rounds with them. Their solution is to buy a new cover. I'm about to buy a new cover and it won't be a Bakflip. It also won't be from realtruck.com.
    • Yes, and also pulling heavy trailers or a large camper up steep grades as well as descending grades such as the more rustic off road camping locations and using engine braking with that low gearing as well as soft ground can just suck the power . I realize pickups these days tend to have an over all lower first gear ratio compared to automatic transmission pickups from years back so that has helped a lot in its ability in high range but there comes a point if in four wheel drive the torque runs out at the wheels, certainly with a gas engine. They don't put two speed transfer cases on pickups for a cool factor, they have a function if one needs that massive torque to the wheels that high range can't deliver.
    • Notes 7/18/2026   3,400 miles on this batch of Mobil 1 Euro 5W40 since the GDI pump replacement. Alcohol runs very clean when ring seal is tight and the sump isn't getting hosed with fuel. Checked oil level at fill up today as is my practice and grabbed a white Kleenex to look at the color. What color?  I was going to change it but.....
    • 4 low is really nice on steep boat ramps.
    • Interesting, I suspect I would have fueled up in Lee Vining as the day prior I would have filled up either in Laughlin or near there and maybe again before I entered Death Valley and once out the other side late that evening as I kept on driving into the night up near Lee Vining. Next morning I most likely fueled up in LV before heading over Tioga Pass into ( as I refer to it as "Yose .... Mite" 😁 ). And again that was 19 years ago but the price then must not have jumped out at me like the 5 bill a gallon theme of nutty cult hippy country Big Sir or head so far up their rear Aspen. I'd be curious to know where the highest prices are in the lower 48, I probably would not be far off to guess somewhere in Cali forn ie. Coldfoot and Prudhoe bay may have those prices beat but that is a whole other world up there and when prices are more normal elsewhere that is about what they can be up there I believe in no mans land. Anyway interesting that the 395 corridor is hosing people and the thing is, its tourist season and its not like there are a lot of competition options when driving up that highway from what I could see. Yup, big ole Boaterhomes and various other RV's ahead and behind me at the Yosemite entrance gate and they have to get their fuel somewhere.
