Problem when engaging emergency brake...

Has anyone ever had this problem? While doing some maintenance on my truck, I had it running and in neutral. To keep it from rolling backwards, I engaged the emergency brake. However as soon as it goes all the way in and the lil light comes on the cluster indicating the brake is on, the truck kills instantly. I have to wait a few mins before it will start backup.

The truck is 91 S-10 with a 5 spd, and the 2.8 V6 in it.

Also along with this problem, my gauge is reading 210 all of a sudden while driving. Yesterday both of these problems were not existant until this morning in the truck. Im begininging to think that i could possibly be related after checking my fan, radiator, puke jug, and etc for possible water leaks and to see if the fan is turning.

I find it odd that once this high temp reading happened (210 to be exact and no higher) that my brake problem also appeared.

Any help is appreciated if anyone has experienced this.

Thanks in advance-Brandon

BTW truck is all stock, no mods to it.

Without seeing it or knowing anything else, just shooting from the hip, I would have to say you may want to check your alternator or electrical system... I doubt it would really die from the measly light on the dash, but it could happen... Check for other strange problems.. pulsing headlights, dim lights, dead battery one morning, etc... But AFAIK the parking brake is a manual cable system with a switch for the light... shouldn't be causing a problem at all...

Got if fixed.

Last year I had replaced my fuel pump and and the had to rewire my system for the relay that controls it. Well what was happening was that the brake arm was hitting the wire pluging into the fuse box and thats what was killing the fuel pump.

As for m temp it was a stuck thermostat as I had thought orgianally. After checking the water for circulation, and consquently not finding any, I switched out the stat and shes a rollin again. Now if I could only have nothing go wrong the next 6 weeks when my new Xtreme gets in I'll be set :D
