Dash Cam And Dvr..

Wifey wanted me out of the way while she and my daughter cooked the bird, so I did some mods I was stocking up..

first, I installed a Dash Cam and DVR system. back in August my mother was in an accident (she was ok) where in some lady ran a stop sign and turned left in front of her and totalled her new Caddy that I had just bought her for her birthday in June..

there was a big fight with the insurance company over who was at fault, but thanks to a witness (school crossing guard we later talked to) my mom was found not at fault, but the hassle led me to decide to install these into all our cars..

found this on ebay for $135, and the mounting bracket from RAM-Mounts for $25, it's wired to the ignition so it starts recording at key on and stops recording at key off so there is no need for any human intervention..

it will record to a 2 or 4gb SD chip and once full it will delete the oldest file and continue to delete/record, it marks the files by date and time, so you can pull the AVI file off onto your computer anytime there is a need.

it will record sound, though you can turn it off, I did, no one needs to hear my awful singing along with the radio..

it records in HD 1280 x 720 DPI and the images are chrysal clear.

the Ram mount goes between the windshield and mirror, using the OEM mirror mount, however it is not compatible (as stated on the RAM mount site) with the onstar mirror, but a little trimming with a dremel tool resolved that issue (the onstar mirror mount is a bit thicker so triming of the slots that slide over the mount was required).

i've attached a boring video of my drive to work this morning so you can see how great the video comes out.. (it's 15 min just FYI) though the youtube conversion to make it fit their specs looses some of the quality, but it is crystal clear in it's original format.

It's slightly hangy, but it's still a good cam. Very clear. You didn't stop at the stop sign, though. And I would rather hear you sing than silence. Looks like a nice sunny day to.

what stop sign? there are no stop signs on my route to work, only lights..

The one as you pulled out the shopping center. They call that a California stop.

sure I did, it's called a California Roll.. seeing as I am in CA and all... (actually I jumped to beat the light that is about 50 feet to the left which you can't see in the video, else I would've sat there for 20 min)..

Good move!! 20 minutes is a long time to wait.

that light only changes when there is traffic on the side streets and the side streets are residential that exit out of a housing tract.. believe me I have been stuck there for 15 - 20 min before, as that street i turned on (Lakewood Blvd) is the main thoroughfare thru my city, 45mph speed limit and goes from 4 lanes just south of the light to 2 lanes as you approach the light then back up to 4 lanes right as you pass that shopping center and residential area, before the freeway on-ramps to the right..
