Front End Thud

Hi guys, I just installed a set of KYB shocks in my '00 Z71. My original shocks had 140k on them and I thought it was a good time to replace em. My questions is, when its cold out, and i hit a pothole, my truck hits pretty hard, almost as if the shocks aren't doing their job. It also has new tires, tie rods, idler/pitman arms etc. My balljoints may be original but they look ok. My friend's '04 Sierra Z71 doesn't hit as hard but he's only got 70k. Ideas?

Cold shocks are usually stiff until the oil inside has a chance to warm. Cold shocks, cold steel springs, cold stiff tires, and frost damaged roads...winter is hard on vehicles.
