10 Bolt Ball Joints

Have to replace all the ball joints on my 81 k15 fairly soon, 10 bolt axle. Will be redoing the axle knucks and packin bearings as well. Tie rods are all good. First time doing this. Any instuctions and tips that will make things easier?

 

ive got a ballj press, spanner for my hubs, and threaded insert spanner for the uppers.

 

not too sure about how to set the upper ball joint preload.

 

possible for someone to give me a procedure? im sure its on this site somewhere but i havent found anything.

one thing I found on removing the ball joints is when using the clamp. Tighten it up and give it a smack with a hammer, tighten some more and another smack. A couple of those knocks it right out.

it's not that bad of a job. Done quiet a few on GM, Ford, and Dodge.
