Squeaky Belt

Any serious issues with a squeaky belt noise at start up and moderate engine speeds once warmed up?

I have a 2008 1500 GMC Sierra SLT 5.3 AFM and the belt noise seemed to originate here in the winter. Please bear in mind that the truck has roughly 63,000 miles on it. I just don't want a broken belt on the side of the highway.

Mine makes noise, it also has about your mileage.

Mine had to be replaced and 31,000 miles. It squeaked like yours.

Gee I wonder if they replace it under warrenty for being noisey?

The belt on my 6.0 just started making noise this winter. Going to the dealer soon. 11,000mi

My 09 did the same thing, took it to the dealer had it replaced. That was done when I had about 15,000Km - I've got 32Km on it now and its good so far. It was covered under warranty

No. They won't replace it. The belt is considered a wear item and is only covered for 12/12. Sometimes they will go beyond that though. It really depends on the service department and your relationship with them.

Had that problem on my 99 5.3. It did have considerable more miles than yours: 118,000.. I replaced the belt and tensioner.....oh, by the way; there are two belts and two tensioners on my truck. I replaced them both. That fixed problem.

Replace with Goodyear Gaterback belts, less prone to noise. Check tensioner and pully when unloaded for play.

Inspect the belton the side that has the ribs if there are tiny cracks between the ribs then it time to replace the belt. /Dave

mine had that problem, bought a $12 gates belt and swapped it in 5 minutes and has been noise free ever since
