Is $350 for the installation of all new hard brake lines expensive? This is at a local shop. I was going to do it myself but I don't like the idea of bending and bleeding all new brake lines from the abs motor out. Any and all opinions needed/wanted.

Thanks,

Chas

I'm wondering this too. I haven't looked into prices around here but I want to switch to stainless steel lines when it comes time to change my brakes. If I can bleed the brakes myself I'll do it to save some $$$.

I thought about picking up one of those Motive pressurized brakes bleeders to make bleeding the lines easier but wasn't sure if they can be used on the GMT900's ABS braking system. Can I use something like that on my GMT900?

I am thinking that the shop is ok on price but I just wanted other's opinions. I'm sure they bleeder will work but i like the old method of pumping up the brakes and cracking open the bleeder.

I just experienced replacing my own brake lines on my 01 GMC crew cab. This was due to corrosion and a leak in at least one line. I chose to replace all lines from the master cylinder to the ABS Pump, to the front wheels. I replaced the line to the rear wheels last winter.

I chose to do it myself with a assistant (person). We bent and flared (double) our line from coils of standard Autozone line. After attempting to bleed the lines, realizing that the front Brakes would bleed but you feel nothing in the difference in the brake pedal. I started calling the local Dealer and the Service Tech said should be ok with a gravity bleed, then the standard old school type of manual bleed. NOT.

Now I have to take the truck to a GM dealer and pay them to use the Dealer owned (this was verified thru the local Firestone dealer) Tech scanner used to Auto Bleed the ABS Pump, then they would do the old school Bleed. (i believe this is due to air in the abs pump).

$92.00 plus for the auto bleed and final manual bleed. Dang it. not to mention scaring the crap outta the wife when took it out after a test drive and nearly wrecking it due to the super light/increased stopping distance. and approx. two weeks (two weekends) of trying to problem solve this issue. Dam I LOVE the Old trucks for thier simplicity. But Gotta Love this Big Blue Truck.

Basically take it to the shop.

Make sure they give you a paper estimate and no extras without contacting you first.

I am 49 years old and not afraid to tackle any issue once but they have us by the ba--s on this one.
