2007 Tahoe Tow Capacity Question . . . Help Needed

We are looking to buy a travel trailer and before we buy I want to make sure we target a trailer that is light enough. I've got lots of opinions from the travel trailer salesmen, which I don't trust.

I checked the owner's manual and it shows 6200 lbs for the total trailer weight. Then I called the dealership to see what they would say and the service writer told me 7700 lbs. I'm not sure which one to believe, and I'm hoping the 7700 is right. That would give us more trailer selections. I want to target a trailer that is at least 1000 lbs below which ever number is right.

The owners manual shows the gross combined vehicle weight as 12,000 lbs. The service writer said he didn't have that information.

No matter what I will get an equalizer hitch for weight distribution and sway control.

Can the group help me figure out which one to believe (owners' manual or Chevy dealership)?

Vehicle Info:

2007 Tahoe LTZ

5.3L V8 Flex Fuel

3.42 Axle

2WD

20" wheels

Smooth Ride suspension

Heavy Duty Trailering package (per sticker) - I don't think this includes a transmission cooler.

Early model year vehicle (we bought it in Oct. 2008 and it had been sitting on the lot for over a year)

Per the dealer brochure the 2wd 5.3 is rated at GVWR of 7100. The payload is 1812.

The 7100 GVWR matches up with the door jam label and the window sticker. I didn't see payload and not sure how that helps me figure out if trailer weight is 6200 or 7700 lbs. Can you help me connect the dots Ryan? Thanks!

Also, thanks for moving the topic to the right location.

    • New to this forum.  Also looking to tune a 6L80 and trying to work out all the issues in my transmission swap.  I have a 6.2 diesel (1983) and have removed the TH-400 and about to put in a 6L80 with a TCM-2600 interface and don't have a clue what I doing after that.  Did you (Leatherneck/RAV3) get your slip resolved? I too hate to spend that kind of money on a tuner that hopefully I will not need too many times although from what steelerdude15 added about the HP Tuner being great for diagnostics would be a plus.  I am also from WNC but below you in Columbus.  Any helo would be greatly appreciated.
