The actual electrical part or the lock cylinder? What does it do when you try to start it? turn over? crank up, then shut off a second later?

Lock cylinder with a new key an it's just turning over

Thanks

Then I'd venture to say the security system is cutting the fuel, does the security light flash when you try to crank it or something of the sort?

theft light is flashing when starting

Yep, when you changed the switch you also changed the security sensor and you will either have to put the switch that was in it back or get a dealer to program the new switch to the computer. Does this system include the resistor in the key, aka the black thing on the key shank, with a silver bar. Because if so, you can swap the resistors from the old keys into the new keys

You can program the ignition yourself. Turn the key to the on position and leave it on for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes turn it off then back on for another 10 minutes. Do the same procedure for another 10 minutes for a total of 30 minutes. After the 3rd cycle, the ignition will be programed to the computer and the car will start. I've been a locksmith for 10 years and replaced countless gm ignitions and always program them this way.
