Paxton Superchargers

I have the opportunity to purchase a Paxton SC for next to nothing ($500).  What I need to know is this....

*How many of you, if any, have used the Paxton on your 5.3L

Silverado?

*Are there any known problems with them?

*How are they performance wise?

*How do they rate next to the Whipple version?

Thanks! I appreciate the feedback!

No experience, others will jump in - the Paxton is a centrifugal as opposed to the twin screw Whipple, your gains will be in the high end once it has time to spool up.

Also...I know some of you are wondering how the heck can I get a SC for $500.....well here is the story...LOL

The SC will be coming off an identical truck to mine. A buddy of mine was driving home in the rain and rolled his truck....no idea how, but he did. He had installed the Paxton 5000 miles previous to this. He is trying to get all the money he can out of the truck (Engine, transmission....) before the insurance company takes it away....(it was totaled). I will be able to take pretty much everything I need off of the truck and put it on mine. Since the SC was installed only 5000 miles ago, he still has all the receipts / Documentation.

Sounds like you are buying used.  I would spend what I considered ADEQUATE time to evaluate how COMPLETE the kit is, and how much it will cost you to complete the kit.

Centrifugal blowers do not have to "spool up" like a turbo does, but there is more lag due to the increased volume of air between the blower/compressor and the cylinders compared to a "roots" type blower mounted on the manifold.  This is something you probably wouldn't notice unless you drove one back to back with a "roots" type blower.

Will do.

Looks like this weekend I will find out for sure as I am going over to look at the truck to find out how much I can tear off of it.  The more I think about it, the more I feel that extra 100 or so HP could come in handy.

I do have another question for everyone though...

Does the programmer that comes with the SC allow you to do all the needed adjustments?  OR am I still going to have to take it in to a shop to get all the fine tuning done?

Bastard tried to screw me!

Well, I went over there to take a look at the SC....the unit was cracked from the accident!  I Asked him, "What the #### is this!?!?" pointing at the crack....his response "..ummm...that isn't that bad is it?".....freaking idiot!  Geez....  needless to say, he paid me $20 for gas......and I got the #### out of there.

Moral of the story:  If something sounds too good to be true...it probably is.
