Railroaders?

Just wondering if there are any other railroaders on this site? Let us know your company, years of service position and general working location and if applicable when you retired!

 

I work for Union Pacific as a Signal Maintainer. Been here for three years and I work up in the rockies in Colorado. Still have 36 years till retirement but I do enjoy my job. I look forward to see who else is on here!

I used to work at Budd Company( Transit America)..left in 1982.I was an Electric tester, I think it was dept.103..not sure. Built Amtrak Metroliner coach cars, CTA cars, New York MTA???. At the Red Lion Plant, Philadelphia ( Thanks to Tony T..for getting me that job)....would have been nice to retire from a place like that. Too Bad its a golf course now.

Anyway...I can say I helped build part of the last wave of American-built good quality rail products.

where are locomotives made now? Are they still in US, just not as many plants? I would think that building something of that size would be more economical to build here....

well, GE still makes them in Erie, PA, and Electro-Motive Corp (better known as Electro-Motive Division of GM) still builds them in London, ON, Canada. EMD DID have an Assembly Plant in LaGrange, IL, but they closed that plant, but they still make the Actual Engines there.

in 1982 Budd was building the shells for those GE Locos and wiring them.

They left to get the engines elsewhere...I remember seeing those locomotive shells on the line at Budd.

BNSF, conductor, just over 5 years now of service now.

My old man has worked in the IHB yards for right about 38 years now and has probably done it all at least once by now.

I bet a LOT of Historical Societies that have Budd Cars could use your electrical Expertise for restorations! Who better to test the Restored Electrical Systems then the Guy who did it the First time!

no qualifications needed. I was working at another business and one of our customers came in who was a RR and asked if id like to make more money. Gave me the address to apply online and i ended up getting hired first time.
