Battery Light On Dash

hello...started my truck today[03 2500 sierra 6 litre] and the display was reading..... battery not charging....and the battery symbol/light was on also. drove out on the lake anyway[dumb] an when i got to the hut the volt gauge was at 9. tried starting the truck an hour later and would not start. had the wife get me a new battery to get me off the lake. got home with the new battery without a problem and gauges all good. just went to the store and battery warning on again and volt gauge goin down. my question is.....does this sound like the alternator?

Absolutly... The light probably went out because the battery had a full charge and was able to hold enough of a charge with the limited output of the altenator. Starting would draw the battery down to a point the altenator can't keep up with the engine and charge the battery at the same time. watch draining the battery down to many times,it'll ruin it. Just my $.02..

get an alternator....battery light=trucks running off battery with no help from alternator
