Best Exhaust?

i have no interest in buying highly expensive bolt-on kits, there is a really good exhaust shop here in town that has good prices and guarantees their work for life, including rust. some of the neatest looking systems i have ever seen. my main question i wanted to throw out was, what is the optimum exhaust for a nnbs with a 5.3, flow wise? true dual? split muffler? im not trying to start another battle over the best sounding muffler, that has been kinda beat to death already... i just want to know what you guys think.

what i had in mind: 3" from the cat through a "non brand specific" muffler and single exit. i do know that the stock pipe is 2.5", but it may be 3" between the cat and muffler i never crawled under it to measure.

Sounds like you have a good plan. I think the pipe is 2.75" before the muffler and 2.5" after.

I would run 3" like you want. I have 3.5" to muffler then dual 2.5" out and I haven't felt any negative performance. As far as the muffler get a stainless straight through muffler, like Magnaflow or Corsa.

Its up to you to pick what you like. The loudness you want and the looks you want (dual or single). Exhaust is not the important on a stock motor, especially a cat back exhaust. Headers, collectors and cats are the ones that make the improvements.

Dynomax has a $75.00 rebate going on some of their cat-back systems now. Give them a look. They work real well with the 5.3 and AFM/DOD.

Because the factory systems flow so well on these trucks already, you're really benifiting from sound change and looks by changing out the system from factory.

I myself, prefer the look of one tailpipe out each side of the truck, behind the wheels. It's a lot of added pipe and probably does nothing for performance or sound but that's what I like in the looks department. If you're ok with just

a single pipe, I'd just replace the muffler and add a larger tailpipe (3").
