263 Hd Transfer Gearbox

2007 2500HD Classic with 158K miles. Making whining noise while accerolatoring above 50 mph but not when coasting.

 

Checked fluids. OK. Replaced fluids at 100K miles and again recently.

 

Heard about the pump wearing through the TGB casing, but don't have this issue. (yet)

 

Does the pump have these symptoms (noisey) ? Or am I looking at the wrong issue. Hard to tell exactly where the noise is.

Does the noise change in 4WD?

 

Extend the transfer case and rear axle breather hoses so you can listen to them, from the cab, while driving and see which is louder.

More than likely in the rear axle then.
