Maxima This!

So on the weekend, was going out to dinner for a buddy's birthday and I am at a light waiting. The maxima infront of me takes off like a bat out of hell, he moves over to the other lane and now we have another red light at we are the front runners. I didn't think he wanted to race, but was I wrong. Light changes, he takes off and I play catch up. At the begining he had a legnth on me, by the time we hit 75km he had a fender, I let off and 100 feet later he made the next left. Now aren't these Maxima's suppose to be quick?

0-60 about 6.5 seconds, 1/4 mile low 15s upper 14s. The 3.5L Altima might beat ya though as it is lighter. The 3.5L has been around for a long time and Nissan has done a dang good job on it. And yes that is a compliment for an Asian vehicle coming from a die hard buy American guy.

If it was an old maxima maybe but since 2002 every maxima has run in the 14 seconds for 1/4 mile so unless you have a lot done to your truck or he wasn't at full throttle or there was something wrong it then it didn't happen

Plus people who stoplight drag race are gearboxes

I agree, if it was a newer Maxima, he wasn't trying.

If it was an old maxima maybe but since 2002 every maxima has run in the 14 seconds for 1/4 mile so unless you have a lot done to your truck or he wasn't at full throttle or there was something wrong it then it didn't happen

Plus people who stoplight drag race are gearboxes

I agree, if it was a newer Maxima, he wasn't trying.

I can Gaurantee he was trying and it was a newer one as well, possibly an 08-09. I lifted first and when I did he pulled ahead hard. Not going to get in a pissing match, but how can you say it didn't happen? Were you there? I have no doubt it would wallop me up after 50mph, but up until that I was catching it.

an 08+ bone stock auto on an average day is going to run 14.5 and 0-60 in under 6 flat. There have been guys on the forums running faster than that and I believe some have even hit 14 flat. I don't think GM has produced a truck capable of those times since the cyclone (if it even ran that fast stock, those haven't really been around in my lifetime).

Hahaha really a discussion comparing a random car to a full-size truck? You have no idea if they guy was giving 100% throttle. You are just GUESSING he was racing you with his all.

Its called messing with someone, most of the time they let you keep up and see how fast they can get you to go. Its no fun if you stop at 50 mph, its fun if they can get you to do 100 mph.

This thread was not meant to say hey look at me I am so cool, my truck was catching a Maxima up to 50. I wanted to know if these cars really have that much power and if he gave it its all, OR if they had more hype than what they actually have. It sure looked and felt like he was giving it, because I was not catching him fast, but fast enough. For all I/we know maybe he was giving its all, but did not know how to drive the car (Seen that happen WAY too many times, on and off the track).

Want to say thank you to James to give me something to ACTUALLY compare to, inside of saying your an idiot. I asked a question. Also thanks for the definition for 'Messing with someone', sounds like it happens to you often.

Because I have driven both vehicles and the newer Nissans with the 3.5 haul ass, very quick off the line. And if your truck isn't tuned, then there isn't any way he was going all out. Even if your truck is tuned, it still wouldn't have been that close of a race.

Besides, you assuming he was actually trying is no different than me saying he wasn't, unless of course you talked to him afterwards.

My wife's '05 3.5 altima used to rape the shit out of my Sierra and that was tuned with mods. Course she doesn't stand a chance now against the tbss. The maxima is slightly heavier than the altima, even so I'm not sure I see it losing to a stock pickup.

what if the nissan had a mechanical problem.... who says every random car on the road runs perfect? im sure there is a vette out there somewhere that would struggle to run a 22 in the 1/4 because it is running so shitty. variables like this could mean that the guy could have been giving it all and it was missing like a civ with a plug wire hanging off or something.
