Abs Reacting

I'm wondering if anyone of you ever had that issue. Sometime, let say once a week when i want to stop at a red light for example and at very low speed on a dry pavement i feel the ABS reacting on the brake pedal for a fraction of a second. Anybody have an idea what it should be ?

Sounds like a wheel speed sensor is gettin bad, that or a wheel bearing

They had problems with the front wheel speed sensors having corrosion on the hub where they mount and doing this. You can remove the rotors, remove the wheel speed sensors, clean the rust off the mounting hole and reinstall.

Mine does it everytime I stop. It is a dangerous situation because it actually adds 3-4 feet to your stopping distance. With me it happens at 4 mph.

Worked for me. When removing the speed sensor, be carefule not to break it. They are brittle.

Are they still honoring the recall on these trucks?

 

I had a 2001 Sierra 5 years ago and I got a recall notice in the mail. I never got mine fixed, but I was just wondering. I didn't know if they ever stop honoring a recall if enough time has passed.

Thats what I'd bet my money on. I had the exact same issue a couple of years ago. Took it to the dealer under warranty, they showed me the movement/play shaking the tire. One new wheel bearing and good as new(I believe it was a entire hub assembly with the speed sensor on my truck).

Last saturday night when i was riding at my sister home, i and every body around the truck notice a lot of smoke coming up from the right front wheel at the first stop light after the highway. I had the same problem last autumn on the same wheel and my mecanic had change the caliper and the pads from both side. I think that blacksierra01 may be right, it could'nt be the caliper again and that ABS reacting ???? Anyway i'm going to my mecanic friday morning and i lets you guys know.

I needed new rotors on my truck to pass state inspection a couple of weeks ago. My rear calipers were sticking causing the inside pads to drag. All 4 rotors were rotted on the insides... They cleaned my wheel speed sensors and realigned them when they had it apart and it stops and works like new again!

Well i went to my mecanic today and i'm most mix then ever before. First it is not sure that the front right wheel caliper is in cause with my issue, as i told you before i have it changed last autumn. What i learn today and believe it or not is that the iron bracket that hold the hose may have been rusting with the year and cause a restricted fluid return that keep a pressure on the pad what may cause my problem. My mecanic looses the clip and i'll see what happen in the future, hope that will work....I let you know in week coming.

It add happening again yesterday night and this morning i try to clean my right front wheel sensor and could'nt take it away, i unscrew the allen bolt and pull right up like the work shop manual said and it won't coming so instead of broking it i decided to stop. I pull the 60A ABS fuse away and see what is going to happen but there is somthing that i could not cach ABS system is for releasing the brake not apply it !!!!! My mecanic told me that it can also be the autoride system what do you think ??? Next step is a visit to the general $$$$$$.
