1998 1500 Disabling Door Autolock

1998 4wd Silverado 5.7 automatic, factory remote and electric door locks.

 

When I bought this truck used the door locks did not autolock. When I changed the battery they started locking whenever it is started and unlocking whenever turned off. I've locked myself out of the truck because I use it for plowing and trailering, often getting out of the truck after starting or starting with the door open.

 

I cannot program this by turning the key while the turn signal is pulled forward. That was on more recent models. The owner's manual does not cover reprogramming autolock feature.

Find and remove the aftermarket keyless entry/remote start/alarm module that is tied into your wiring somewhere. Auto door locks was never a factory installed option in these trucks.
